Glam it up

Come one, come all and Come Glamorous! Find inspiration in the styles of Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe or put together your own creation of glamor!

Below are costume rental shops (about $100) that we recommend:

The Musical Showcase

The Entertainment Committee is working hard to bring you a lineup of musical artists that you will want to dress up and dance all night for.

You can find artist profiles in the column at the right.

Nieve
of Nieve & Cook (Goon Trax Records) and DJ Matter of Mudluscious (Bagavagabonds/MUTENUS Records and an instructor at the Scratch DJ Academy) will orchestrate and MC the evening. If anyone wants to make announcements, thank yous, shout-outs, please contact remy.e.olson with what you'd like to have announced or to announce it yourself.

The Whole of the Moon will start the night, setting the mood with jazz and early-era swing; big band enough to help you embrace your costume, and subtle enough to allow for mingling and discussion over your dinner. If you have song requests, please contact remy.e.olson.

Noelle Scaggs is our featured soul and jazz artist as a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. Noelle will set the tone for the next phase of the evening. Formerly the lead vocalist for Soul Septet and The Rebirth, she is known for various collaborations with such artist as The Black Eyed Peas, Dilated Peoples, Guilty Simpson, Dj Rhettmatic, Quantic, Poet Name Life, M.E.D and many more.

Inverse, one of LA's finest indie hip-hop bands, will heat up and engage the crowd with their exceptional stage presence and jazz-influenced beats.

Paul Dateh's unique take on jazz/hip-hop on the violin will be accompanied by a phenomenal band. An award-winning songwriter, and an instrumentalist, Dateh's work can be heard on releases by various artists within both mainstream and underground hip hop circles, and he can currently be seen performing throughout the United States with his band “The Live Movement”.

Old Hollywood Glamor Theme

The theme of Puttin' on the Ritz was selected for the endless opportunities for entertainment, costuming and ambiance that it will afford to make for a picturesque event.

To take advantage of the theme, we're coordinating costume discount arrangements for you to attend in the most glamorous state you're able to create. We'll post costume ideas here as we draw closer to the event.

Hired paparazzi (professional photographers Chad Hill and Zak Flemming) will catch you on the red carpet in front of the event backdrop and under the marquee at the Music Box. They'll lurk in the venue all night and make photos available after the event.

PhotoShop geniuses Polite in Public are designing a photo-booth-style photo shoot set just for our event for groups to pose and take home a framed piece of the evening.
